B: A minimum of 5 years of prior handgun experience may help in the application process, but it is not a requirement to apply for a Michigan CPL.

C: Ownership of a registered handgun is not a requirement to apply for a Michigan CPL. Applicants do not need to own a handgun in order to apply.

D: Contrary to what may seem obvious, there is actually a requirement for safety training in order to apply for a Michigan CPL. While the state does not explicitly state that there is a training requirement, in order to obtain a license, applicants must undergo a background check, fingerprinting, and complete a comprehensive application process, all of which would be nearly impossible without first completing a safety training course. So while the state may not explicitly state that safety training is required, in practice, it is a necessary step in the application process.
